Supplies needed:

1.    Paper Mache’ ornaments / or Styrofoam balls
2.    Glue and Small paint brush
3.    Any color plastic bugle beads
4.    Ribbon (needed if using Styrofoam balls)
5.    Stickpins (needed if using Styrofoam balls)

Begin by choosing different shaped paper Mache’ ornaments or simple Styrofoam balls.  Also choose the color of bugle beads that will fit your tree décor.

*If you will be using Styrofoam balls, you will need to use the ribbon and stick pins to make a little hanger.  First, cut your ribbon into 3” pieces.  Fold each piece in half so that both ends are together at the bottom.  Put the stickpin through both ends of the ribbon and stick into the ball at an angle.  Then put another stick pin through the ends but at a different angle to hold the ribbon securely.

Pour your beads into shallow bowls, keeping different colors separate.  Then begin by painting on flue in medium size sections so your glue doesn’t dry before you add the beads.  (Styrofoam balls tend to need more glue than the paper Mache’ ones.)

Now place your glued section of the ornament into the beads, pressing gently in order to get the beads to attach to the glued ornament.  Continue this process until you have completed one half of the ornament.  (It is better to let the completed half dry before beginning the second half.)

Once the first half is dry, finish the second half repeating the same process.  Once both sides are completed, you may want to add small dabs of glue and then add more beads to any bare spots.  Pay close attention to where the two halves meet because you will more than likely have to add more beads there.

Some of the ornaments have angled sides and these look great with a two-color affect.

These ornaments are easy to make for any school aged children. Pre-schoolers can also do them with your supervision! Have fun and be creative.
