Wrapping Packages
To pre-measure the length of gift-wrapping paper from a large roll, wrap a string around the package first, then cut off the desired length and use it as a measuring guide.
Fireplaces
There is less need to scrub the fireplace if you throw salt on the logs occasionally. This will reduce the soot by two-thirds.
Vinegar will clean brick tiling around the fireplace. Dip a vegetable brush in white vinegar and scrub quickly. Immediately sponge to absorb the moisture.
Rub smoked areas with an art gum eraser. This works especially well on porous, rock front fireplaces.

Toss dried orange and lemon rinds into your fireplace for a spicy aroma.
Polishing and cleaning shoes and boots
Nail polish remover is excellent for removing tar and grease from white shoes. Do not use on plastic.
Use a solution of equal amounts of vinegar and water to remove salt from shoes and boots.
Give your patent leather shoes a bright shine by rubbing with a dab of petroleum jelly.
Use household window spray or furniture polish as a speedy shoeshine for all types of leather.
Removing Candle Wax Or Crayon
Place the stained area between clean paper towels or pieces of a brown paper bag and press with warm iron.
Removing Candle Wax Dripping:
Place a blotter or brown paper bag over the spot and put a hot iron
over blotter. After a few minutes, the wax will be absorbed into the
blotter. Repeat if necessary.

Club soda works wonders for removing grease from double-knit fabrics.
