Did you ever notice in John 20:7 that the cloth that covered Jesus’ face was folded and lying on the side?
John 20:7 While the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying to the side.
Why did Jesus fold it? The
folded napkin was very significant. The Hebrew tradition was this: A
servant would set the table and be sure everything was prepared
properly for his master. The servant would wait just out of sight until
the master was finished eating. The servant knew the master was
finished if he wiped his face and hands, wadded up the napkin and
tossed it on the table. If the master was not finished, he would fold
the napkin neatly and place it beside his plate. This meant he was
returning.
The reason Jesus folded the napkin and placed it neatly where He was laying signifies HE IS COMING BACK!!!!
TODAY, if you leave a table before you are finished dining, place the napkin on your chair.
• When you are finished eating and are leaving the table, fold it and place it on the table.
• After being seated at a table, put your napkin on your lap.
If it is a large napkin, fold it in half and place it on your lap. If
it is a small napkin, open it up completely and place it on your lap.
• Leave the napkin on your lap, except to blot your mouth when needed.
• Do not use the napkin to blow your nose. If you have to blow your nose, leave the table and go to a restroom to do so.
