When a lady is entertaining
at home, she turns off the television. Unless the purpose of the party is to
watch a television program.
If a lady chooses to play
background music during a dinner party, she makes sure it does not overwhelm
the table conversation.
If a lady is running as much
as 15 minutes late for a dinner party, either in a private home or a
restaurant, she should contact her host or hostess urging that the party go
ahead without her.
Even if she is not a praying
person, when prayer is offered for the food, a lady bows her head.
A lady never argues with friends
at the table.
In the midst of a dinner
conversation or any conversation, a lady does not attempt to make herself the
center of attention.
A lady does not reach or
grab for food. Instead, she waits for it to be passed by a fellow diner, or
served by a server.
If a lady desires a second
helping from a dish on the table, once everyone at the table has been served,
she asks for the dish to be passed to her.
When it is a lady’s turn to
pass a serving dish, she passes it clockwise. (In other words, to her left.)
No matter how informal the
event at which a lady has been entertained, she always says thank you in
writing or by phone.
A lady does not wash her
food down with great gulps of water or any beverage.
A lady does not eat and run.
A lady knows that a written
thank you note never goes out of style.
