A number of years ago, my husband mentioned he wanted to have a School of Domesticity for ladies. This did not mean he thought men should not know how to be domestically oriented. However, it was alarming and sad to both of us to see women getting married who did not know the first thing about taking care of a house, doing laundry, cooking, and all the day to day things that go along with managing a household. If ladies do not know what to do, they will not be able to teach their children since, in most cases, they are the person who deals the most in this realm.
Another reason for wanting to reach out to women in this way is because it is clear in Proverbs 31 that the virtuous woman manages her home well, helps others, looks good, is a business woman, is wise, and has a great attitude. My prayer is that this website will encourage you in every area of your life.
Since the rise of the women’s movement, being domestic is something that has been put down and shunned. The outcry has been "Get out of the house, get into the work force, and have someone else do the day-to-days." Unfortunately, most people cannot afford to have someone cook or clean for them. Now we have children being raised thinking that fast food is the way to go while our society has become increasingly overweight and lazy.
I know of a 9-year-old girl who was at a friend’s house. The friend’s mother was making homemade chicken pot pie. The girl asked the mother what she was making and the mother told her. The girl’s response was, “Oh, my mom buys that.” There is nothing wrong with buying already prepared food, but this girl was growing up with the thought that she would just buy all of her meals. Her parents could afford this. Her friend’s parents could not. The girl may be in a position some day where she has to cook because it is more economical. She will not know how because nobody taught her and because, through the example in her home, she was taught to buy already prepared food.
We have to teach our children to be self-sufficient, not dependent on others for everything. Knowing how to do something yourself gives a sense of pride. If individuals are taught the basics, they can venture out from there.
The main reason we should do what we do is to serve the Lord like this verse teaches us. Our desire needs to be to bring glory to Him. Does what I do give Him glory?
Our goal is to help you to bring glory to Him in every area of your life. As we do, the world will see the difference. They’ll want what we have. Remember for them, seeing is believing.
I hope you enjoy the website. I encourage you to be a part by sending in recipes, cooking and cleaning tips, family fun ideas, party ideas, and things that work for you.
As women, we influence those around us all the time. A decision needs to be made about what kind of influence we will be.
Choose to make a difference for God and His Kingdom!
