How to have a relationship with God
and what it means…
Chelsea Good
It’s easy to go through our day being busied by all the to do’s and want to’s that soon the day turns into 1 month gone by… and in the blink of an eye, it’s the new year again and we’re another year older… Another chapter closed. Remember your Creator in the days of your youth… (Ecc. 12:1). There is a God who made us… And unless we ask Him what our purpose is… unless we find out from Him what we should give our time and energy to, we will never fulfill the full potential God had in mind when he made us. Only the creator knows the original reason for the creation. You see, we may achieve a level of success, or live a good & full life, but it would only be based on our own ideals.
What a sad thing it would be to go through life knowing that God made us, but living like he doesn’t exist… or living like he doesn’t have any care or plan for how we live this life he gave us. But God is interested in us… he is interested in YOU… And he wants to be a part of every detail of our lives… That was the idea he had in mind when he made us.
So how do we start a relationship with God after living without him? Do we just decide that we want to start being conscious of God and letting Him into our life?? Letting him be a part of our important life? It sounds silly doesn’t it? That’s because God is more than a friendship that is good to have - that will make our life better in the end. It’s really us becoming part of what God is doing… Desiring the things that he desires and becoming one with Him. Not fitting Him into our already full lives… It is forsaking our ways of doing things, according to our standards, and offering up our lives to be and to do whatever God created us to be and to do… Above and beyond being our friend, God is the Creator and the Lord.
Having a relationship with God means that life won’t be business as usual. It means your plans won’t be the final draft… you won’t be the center of attention. It means that God writes the script and his design becomes your delight and your treasure. You embrace it with all you are.
This all seems to go against our natural tendency though… Be honest… You may not be excited in thinking about giving up all your dreams, your goals, your ideals, your day, your lunch break, your sleeping hours, your desires… your life. You might rather be more comfortable doing things your own way. Looking for your own gain. When we look at all the things we will be “loosing” it may look like a big step to take… a painful price to pay. But if you can step back and look at the big picture you’ll begin to see the main story… It is this…
Let's think about this--- You're a sinner… You have turned to your own ways… You’ve paid attention to yourself and your own desires. You’ll have to stand before Him to give an account of how you used your life on this earth. Now…the scales need to be balanced and you’re in need.
“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins… But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, …made us alive together with Christ” Eph 2:1,4,5
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” Romans 5:8
Today, I challenge you not to look at what you will loose by turning to Christ, but to see what you gain because of His Mercy.
Ps… You will find the things you throw overboard aren’t loss to you at all.
