America The Beautiful?
July/August 2009
My country ‘tis of thee I sing
From coast to coast, let freedom ring…
Four thousand unborn died today,
And workers won’t see half their pay…
We’re saving whales, conserving trees,
Seeking just a life of ease…
Voting for wit and pleasant voice,
Renaming slaughter “Being pro-choice”
Degrading those who fight for us,
Offended by “In God we trust…”
Crafting lies we teach as true,
Forgetting Whom we’ll answer to,
Banning prayer and discipline,
Exiling Omnipotence…
This land is where our fathers died.
The founders walked in it with pride;
Redeemed the ground with tears and toil;
Took time to mourn the blood-soaked soil;
Valued others, paid the price;
And left for us their sound advice…
And yet we’ve grabbed all we can get,
Drowning in a sea of debt…
Spent our kids’ inheritance,
Bequeathing our excessiveness;
Replaced mentors with movie stars
And sold our souls for faster cars…
Is this our fate, Land of the Free?
Exploiting our sweet liberty?
Blinded by our grasping pride,
Blazing trails that will misguide?
One hope is all that I can see
For this, our land of liberty:
“If people pray and seek My Face
And turn from all their wicked ways,
Then I will hear from where I am,
And I will heal their broken land…”
Return to Him, Home of the Brave…
It’s Him alone with power to save…
Cast off your egotistic fraud
And pray “One Nation Under God.”
